The vibrant city of Mazatlán is getting ready to once again welcome theater enthusiasts from across Mexico with the 2024 edition of the International Theater Festival “Escena Mazatlán.”

From September 23 to 29, this event will gather renowned artists and theater lovers for a week dedicated to celebrating creativity and artistic expression.

During a press conference, Raúl Rico González, director of the Mazatlán Institute of Culture, Tourism, and Arts, emphasized the festival’s significance. This year, it will feature five theatrical productions, along with a workshop. Escena Mazatlán is not just an opportunity for audiences to enjoy top-tier productions, but also a chance for local theater companies to gain fresh insights and specialized training.

El Cid Resorts Advances in Sustainability

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, June 6th, 2024.- El Cid Resorts proudly announces the recent EarthCheck Silver Level Certification. A teamwork effort between operational and technical environmental areas, which gives as learning that on the path to sustainability there are no small actions: They all add up when are done from awareness, and also knowing that what we do individually has an impact on the collective and is sustained over time, for the well-being of future generations.

The installation of solar cells in all buildings to produce clean energy, the use of water saving systems, the successful biowaste separation program in alliance with Crococún -Zoo and the Agricultural Sector of Puerto Morelos, and the extensive mangrove conservation area, among other practices have led El Cid Resorts to this important achievement.

With this, El Cid Resorts joins a select international group of sustainable tour operators certified under the standard of the Australian company EarthCheck, with the exclusive internal EarthCheckTM science, which statistically evaluates energy efficiency levels, waste management and emissions generated, water consumption and various social responsibility actions, among others

As part of the process, EarthCheck set down the Benchmarking Phase, which collects hard data and analyzes statistics to evaluate the evolution and compliance of base indicators such as energy efficiency, water savings, waste management and even greenhouse gas emissions. In this regard, the Marina, Ventus and Ventus Ha’ Hotels achieved important levels in the ranking such as:

  • Hotel Marina El Cid Cancún – Riviera Maya: Regional Leader in Waste Sent to Landfill, Regional Leader in waste recycling qualification and above average regarding water consumption.
  • Hotel Ventus: Regional leader in the qualification of waste recycling and the qualification of pesticide products, in addition to achieving a good ranking level in average water consumption.
  • Ventus Ha’ Hotel: Managed to remain above average in waste sent to landfill, greenhouse gas emissions and drinking water consumption.

Thus, El Cid Resorts assumes its global commitment and since 2022 when the Certification process began, the company and its Green Team have followed a path of intense analysis, adaptation and improvement in operational processes, as well as the evaluation of good practices and strengthening teamwork with all areas involved. In this way, it has managed to forge an environmental vision that has matured and evolved, not only with the demands of the sector and the tourism offer, but with the priorities demanded by the current global climate crisis, incorporating sustainability and its main indicators as a guiding axis within the operation.

Mazatlan is celebrating this February! The most awaited celebration is here, with more than 100 years old, the Carnival is back. Get to know the events so that this 2024 you can experience the city’s biggest party.

Tracing the Roots..

Mazatlán’s Carnival, a pre-Lenten celebration with 126 years of tradition, stands as one of the world’s three largest carnivals.

The very first queen was Wilfrida Farmer, crowned in 1990, 8 years later the Carnival would be celebrating its 100th anniversary, having the tradition initiated in 1898.

It was then when the popular and spontaneous party was transformed into an official Mazatlan celebration, that drew emotion and excitement between the locals.

Since then this festive event, held without fail each year, transforming Mazatlán into a lively spectacle of decorations and illuminated skies. The joyful spirit of the people permeates the atmosphere, creating an unforgettable experience.

When is Mazatlan Carnival 2024?

Carnival will be taking place this year from Feb. 8th to Feb. 13th, but the celebration starts even earlier as sculptures called “monigotes” adorn the boardwalk and other popular locations. Without a doubt they are a representation of the art and magic of Mazatlan.

Mazatlan Carnival Events​

There are many shows and events that normally take place as part of Carnival, one of the main things to look foward are the concerts, sharing the first day of the festival we will find the coronation of the King of Joy, and a great show by two of the most recognized singers of regional Mexican music, Julión Álvarez and Alfredo Olivas. The event will take place at the Teodoro Mariscal Stadium starting at 7:30 pm.

On Friday, February 9, also at the baseball stadium, the coronation of la Reina de los Juegos Florales will take place at 8:30 in the evening. The artists who will be in charge of giving the public a great show are Fernando de la Mora and singer Ely Guerra, with the show Mexico en Grande.

On Saturday, February 10, Emmanuel and his son Alexander Acha will be performing, this day will be the coronation of the Carnival Queen, the place of the event will be the Teodoro Mariscal stadium, all this starting at 6:30 at night; the schedule is earlier so that families can enjoy the presentation of the artists and also the coronation.
